Lemony Fresh Smoothie

Have you ever thought of putting lemon’s in your smoothies?

If you follow Erin Ireland, she’s always adding a full lemon into her smoothies and to be honest I always thought it was a bit nutty. She does it all the time and I couldn’t bring myself to throw a full lemon in there!

I recently went to Bolt Fresh Bar in Toronto and they had a smoothie with a lemon in it so I decided to try it out. To my surprise, it was DELICIOUS! I don’t know why I ever questioned it, anything I’ve ever made following Erin Ireland’s guidance has always been 100% delicious. Honestly, if you don’t follow her and you’re into plant-based cooking, do it! She breaks everything down into simple steps that make re-creating her recipes super easy. (She’s totally my vegan idol)

So pretty much, I am now obsessed with putting lemons in my smoothies! So great for alkalinity and boost of your immune system.

Here’s my go-to lemony fresh smoothie recipe:

Business Photos web-8.jpg
  • 1 full lemon (peel off, seeds are totally fine!)

  • 1 inch ginger

  • 1 scoop Botanica lionsmane infused protein (optional swap: 1 cup hemp hearts)

  • 1 cup water

  • 2 cups strawberries or raspberries

    That’s it!
Keeping it simple really brings out the flavour of the lemon & the ginger gives it a nice kick.

Strawberry Delight

Secret #1: I don't enjoy any fruit (other than melons & apples) raw. I have a really hard time getting past their textures. I kind of panic when I have eat them. It's weird, I know. So the only way I can get all the nutrients & antioxidants from fruit is to blend them up into smoothies/smoothie bowls! Hence, why I drink them all the time (and maybe how I ended up owning a smoothie bar??)

My favourite fruit to work with in smoothies are frozen (or fresh!) strawberries. I think they are perfect on their own and I eat a ton of them! Secret #2: my close friends & family order the "Jehna Smoothie" (no, I didn't name it that!) from SimplyWell, a "off-menu-secret-item" that people become obsessed with. Here's the recipe (if you can even call 3 items a recipe) and I highly advise you try it out!

If you're making into a smoothie bowl, these are the toppings I used:

  • 2 tablespoon Sea Salt Manitoba Harvest Roasted Hemp Seeds
  • 2 sliced strawberries
  • Sprig of mint (I chopped it up and mixed it in after the photo)

  1. Add powders into blender (creates less of a mess if you do those first)
  2. Add strawberries
  3. Add water
  4. Blend on high for 2 minutes until smooth. Add more water if needed
  5. Add to cup or bowl
  6. Top with your fav toppings!

Let me know what you think! And yes, you can order this at SimplyWell! (Let me know if you think of a better name for it!) We also sell the protein & greens powder in-store!

Superfruit Smoothie

Smoothies are my favourite way to get a bunch of nutrients in at the same time. There are so many options and it's hard to make a bad combo! I love fruity flavours, so adding in the Botanica Superfruit Greens is a great boost of fruitiness while secretly getting veggies in (8 servings!)

  1. Add protein & greens powder to blender
  2. Add frozen fruit
  3. Add kale
  4. Add coconut milk
  5. Blend on low for 1 minute to break up all the pieces
  6. Blend on high for 1 minute to make a creamy consistency
  7. This recipe makes 1L smoothie (2 cups!)

Berry Chia Pudding

Chia puddings are an excellent way to get a TON of Omega-3's! They are one of my favourite things to make because they're so simple + easy, but so delicious. They are perfect for a pre-workout, or a big day where you need lots of energy!
